Developed by a San Diego tech team that spun off from UC San Diego, the Whova app is designed to boost networking and contact swapping at events and conferences of any size. It offers a platform that connects organizers, attendees and sponsors before, after and during an event. With Whova, eventgoers can plan who they want to meet before the event; a superior strategy to relying on randomly bumping into people. During the event, Whova provides real-time notifications on updates like room changes or reminders that cocktails are being served. Embedded in the app is an innovative business card scanning feature that not only allows you to digitalize any card with a single snap but, thanks to Whova’s algorithms, automatically finds and adds your contact’s photo during the upload. Being able to match a face with a name can come in handy when you’re swiping through those cards weeks later. In its first year on the market, Whova has been used at over 3,000 events, including some hosted by TEDx, Stanford University and Mitsubishi.
