Team-Building Activities: Giving Through Games

By Emma Franke

It may be surprising the first time you see your team’s faces featured on a giant version of the classic board game Guess Who, but from that moment onward, the experience will be nothing but fun. “It gets the group excited from the minute they walk up to the team-building area,” says Samantha Hoffer, account manager at metroConnections

Your team’s excitement isn’t even the best part of metroConnections’ new Play It Forward board games, because playing these giant games puts real board games into the hands of local charities. “Since teams are playing the life-size board games, they earn coupons/vouchers based on their team’s performance that they can exchange for the real games at the end of the activity,” says Hoffer. “These games are then donated to a charity [or] organization local to the area the event is taking place in.”

metroConnections started with life-size versions of Jenga and Connect 4 in their standard inventory, and decided to expand the popular concept to a whole arsenal of giant games, including Battleship Bounce, which combines large-scale table tennis and the game Battleship, and Operation, Kerplunk and Perfection. Teams benefit from the active and social aspects of the games, and can feel good knowing their time together is creating a real benefit for local charities. metroConnections provides delivery, setup and teardown, transportation and an on-site emcee to help make Play It Forward a success at every event.
