The Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry has fallen, and it’s up to the participants of A Very Potter Escape Room at the Trapped Puzzle Room in St. Paul to find the Elder Wand before He-Who-Must-Not-BeNamed claims it for his own.
Groups of up to 10 are tasked with solving themed puzzles to achieve the end goal within an hour. Fans of the series will recognize the elements, but familiarity is not a requirement. “[Participants] might miss things that fans would maybe know more about, but we’ve created it so that you don’t need Harry Potter knowledge,” says Jamie Fassett-Carman, who co-owns Trapped with his mother Karen.
“I often encourage groups to bring people that aren’t superfans, because sometimes fans read too much into certain details that can take up too much time,” says Kelly Houlehan, St. Paul location manager.
Trapped Puzzle Rooms have become a growing group experience in the Twin Cities area with its two locations, all of which host different themed escape rooms. “It’s something that’s more of a mental challenge than a physical challenge. People are looking for something more interesting,” says Fassett-Carman.
Portable puzzles are also available for groups of 12 in which fully immersive experiences (complete with puzzles, clues and décor) are brought to another space. Custom puzzles can also and range from small paper puzzles to a full escape room experience.
