More than 70 meeting planners applied to take part in the destination marketing organization’s site-visit experience, Amazing Rush. Two teams made up of two planners each were selected to take part in a two-day trek around Rapid City and the Black Hills.
Both teams received puzzle pieces with clues on the back. The hints led them to attractions and businesses such as Mount Rushmore National Memorial, National Presidential Wax Museum, 1880 Train, Crazy Horse Memorial, Landstrom’s Black Hills Gold, Bokujo Ramen, Suzie Cappa Art Center, and Black Hills Escape Room. The first team to decipher a particular clue won two points. All of the puzzle pieces were united to create a giant board at the last location.
“Meetings and conventions are an important part of our local economy,” says Brook Kaufman, president and CEO of Visit Rapid City. “The Amazing Rush is a great way to help show the treasures of our area—from our friendly downtown to outdoor adventures—and why our city is a meeting planner’s dream.”
Amy Nordahl and June Reeves represented Women on Wheels, a women’s motorcycle club that promotes female camaraderie by riding motorcycles. The organization’s annual Women on Wheels International Ride-In Convention will be held in Rapid City in summer 2024. The competing team, Jennifer Fenimore and Melanie Flanagan, represented CVS Health.
Online entries for season seven of the Rapid City Amazing Rush are being accepted from Jan. 1-March 31. Two teams will be drawn on or around April 3 and compete on April 18-19. Entry is open to meeting planners who submit a qualifying request for proposal (RFP) for an event, meeting, or convention to held by Dec. 31, 2028.
