• New Art Installations at George R. Brown Convention Center

Houston First has unveiled two key art installations—“Soaring in the Clouds” by artist Ed Wilson and “Wings over Water” by Joe O’Connell and Creative Machines—as a part of the Houston Infusion initiative. The “Soaring in the Clouds” installation is suspended from the ceiling of the grand lobby in the George R. Brown Convention Center and features approximately 300 elements that resemble flocks of birds in flight. “Wings over Water” is a kinetic sculpture that moves as visitors enter the George R. Brown Convention Center Plaza in downtown Houston.

The Houston Infusion initiative, created by Houston First, will oversee the place - ment of 10 art installations by local Houston artists throughout the Avenida Houston district. Designed as a walk - able, pedestrian-friendly plaza, Avenida Houston will better connect visitors to area attractions including BBVA Compass Stadium, Discovery Green, the George R. Brown Convention Center, the Hilton Americas-Houston, the Marriott Marquis, Minute Maid Ballpark and the Toyota Center arena.

“Avenida Houston and the revamped GRB Convention Center will show - case Houston’s vibrant culinary and culture scenes,” says Dawn Ullrich, president and CEO of the Houston First Corporation. “It is unique for a conven - tion district to offer such a comprehen - sive reflection of a city’s personality, and we hope visitors will walk away with a positive sense of what Houston has to offer.”
