New Venue Spotlight: Historic Saint Andrew’s Hall Unveils Renovation

The venue that launched Eminem is back, and it’s cleaned up its act.

Saint Andrew’s Hall, which has hosted the likes of Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Adele at shows when the megastars’ fans could fit in a smallish room, has unveiled its new Society Room, an upscale upstairs lounge space meant to attract event planners as well as concert bookers, and renovated its basement Shelter and main-floor hall. 

New Venue Spotlight: Philip S. Miller Park

Castle Rock’s Philip S. Miller Park officially opened in October 2014 with the crown jewel being the Miller Activity Complex with an aquatic center, trampoline room, golf simulator, drop-down batting cages and two indoor fields. Outdoors, a synthetic-turf field and more than 7 miles of soft-surface trail provide loads of additional options along with Castle Rock Zip Line Tours and Epic Adventure Tower, which are privately operated attractions.

New Venue Spotlight: Polk Penguin Conservation Center

Whether or not your event is black-tie, host it at the Detroit Zoo’s Polk Penguin Conservation Center and at least 80 guests will be wearing tuxedos.

The King Penguins, Gentoo Penguins, Macaroni Penguins and Rockhopper Penguins, to be exact. The stunning new center for the four species, designed by Jones and Jones and Albert Kahn Associates, resembles a gigantic Arctic glacier.

Conrad Chicago Goes from Rush to Erie Street

Sometimes all you need is a change of scenery to feel your best. That is exactly what Conrad Chicago had in mind when planning its latest move. The former Rush Street hotel (which was rebranded into The Gwen almost two years ago) will reopen at a new location at 101 E. Erie Street in September.

New Venue Spotlight: Zio Modern Italian

On the third floor of Mall of America is Kaskaid Hospitality’s newest culinary venture, Zio Modern Italian, which opened December 2015. “Zio Italian has a welcoming atmosphere and is a space where families and friends can enjoy the authenticity of Italian food, wines and hospitality,” says Vittorio Renda, Zio Italian Brand Ambassador.

NOAH’S Event Venue is determined to carve out a niche in the event industry. “We’re unlike any other event venue because we’re national,” says Kirsten Mussi, the venue’s vice president of public relations. “When people walk into NOAH’S, they get the kind of customer service they’d get from a small company but with a lot of the amenities, experience and benefits of working with a larger, established corporation.”

New Venue Spotlight: Smith + The Loyalist

It’s the long-awaited return of culinary duo John B. and Karen Shields—and they are making quite the re-entrance in Chicago’s culinary scene after almost a decade away. The married pair recently moved back to the city to unveil Smyth + The Loyalist in the West Loop, a respective restaurant and downstairs lounge that carries on their legacy of 30 years in the business.

New Venue Spotlight: Loring Social

A Minneapolis staple with over 30 years in the culinary industry, D’Amico Catering will be opening a new property this March. Located adjacent to Loring Park, Loring Social features two main rooms for private events. The formal Waverly Room boasts beautiful views of the Basilica of Saint Mary, a refurbished terrazzo marble floor, oversized vintage elevator doors and glass sconces. It can host 165 people for a reception, 90 for a buffet and 110 for a plated dinner.
