1. What are you looking forward to in your new role as director of sales and marketing at the Grand Hyatt New York?

Partnership Acquires Manhattan Hotel

In a joint venture, Patriarch Equities, Highgate and Sioni Group have acquired the 618-room Affinia Manhattan hotel. Highgate will assume management duties of the hotel, which will be rebranded as the Stewart Hotel.

Danny Meyer Will Receive Torch Award

Danny Meyer, CEO of Union Square Hospitality Group and founder of Shake Shack will be awarded the Torch Award at the International Restaurant & Foodservice Show of New York in March.

The Torch Award, honors restaurateurs who exhibit the characteristics of the Torch, which includes illumination, energy, joy, victory, enlightenment, hope and education.

Pod Brooklyn Set to Open Spring 2017

BD Hotels and CB Developers are opening another Pod Hotel in New York City, this time in Willamsburg. Set to open in spring of 2017, Pod Brooklyn will be a micro-hotel comprised of modular guest rooms.

Ready to Race?

Teaming up with true North Team Building, Doral Arrowwood is taking team-building to a whole new level. The company has created a new competition called The Remarkable Race. Based off of the popular TV show The Amazing Race, the activity is targeting risk versus reward, collaboration and time management skills through multiple team-building activities.

AmpliVox Honored For Disaster Communication System

On Nov. 16, AmpliVox was awarded the ASTOR Award for the Best Disaster Preparedness/Disaster Recovery System, presented at the 2016 ISC East Show in New York.

The AmpliVox Radio Hailer is a transportable system that allows for communication even when other sources have been eliminated. The Hailer joins with two MURS radios, one for receiving the other for transmitting. Additionally, it includes an amplifier, a horn speaker that has 108 dB of sound, and a warning siren with 120 dB.

Buster Expands and Hires New Leader

Buster allows people to book a ride with buses, vans, or limos, like never before. With a total of $3.8 million in funds, $1.1 million raised from investors like General Catalyst, Allen & Company and Priceline, Buster is undergoing some major growth. The company will now expand and enhance their experience by spreading to more cities and making important new hires.

Joining the Buster team is Harald Kruse as CEO. Kruse has experience with online businesses, like Priceline.com and will help with growth at Buster.

1000 Islands Harbor Hotel Appoints Sales Manager

AAA Four Diamond-rated 1000 Islands Harbor Hotel in Clayton, N.Y., has appointed Sam Toscano as their new sales manager.

“Since opening a little more than two years ago, 1000 Islands Harbor Hotel, and consequently the destination, have seen a steady upsurge in visitors, conferences and weddings,” says Todd Buchko, general manager. “We’re thrilled to have Sam on our team to help manage the number of growing opportunities and seek out more prospects that benefit both the hotel and community at large.”

Grand Hyatt New York Debuts New Group Meetings Offerings

The Grand Hyatt New York now offers meeting and teambuilding activities exclusively for group clients. The packages include exclusive experiences at several New York City landmarks, including Grand Central Terminal, One World Observatory and the flagship Macy’s Herald Square.

The 1306-room hotel can accommodate up to 1,500 people with more than 50 meeting rooms and 60,000 square feet of meeting space. It’s located in Midtown Manhattan and within walking distance from the Grand Central Terminal.
