The Hotel at the University of Maryland in College Park is offering a new “Meetings in a Museum” program planners can add to meeting itineraries. Located directly across the street from the University of Maryland campus, the hotel contains more than 100 pieces of artwork on display. It is conveniently located within an hour’s drive of Washington, D.C., as well as Annapolis and Baltimore, Maryland.

“We are offering our meeting guests the chance to engage in a thought-provoking yet relaxing opportunity that highlights our proximity to a highly rated university,” says Director of Sales and Marketing Adriana Niepa in a prepared statement. “Our art collection features pieces in various mediums combining colors, textures, and images to evoke feelings of peace and happiness. Meeting planners can use our in-house museum as a break or group activity for guests, allowing them to become a student of art while also learning from your event.”

The collection includes 104 pieces by 14 artists, located throughout the lower two floors of the hotel and in the health corridor, which also features the spa, fitness facility, and indoor pool. The “Meetings in a Museum” program provides detailed information to help facilitate self-guided art tours of the hotel.

“I met the founder and former CEO of Southern Management Cos., the parent company of The Hotel of the University of Maryland, David Hillman, at a [Maryland] Chamber of Commerce event years ago, and what started as a conversation turned into a full art exhibition,” says Rhonda Dallas, curator of the collection and executive director and chief curator of the Prince George’s Arts & Humanities Council. “Mr. Hillman’s generosity created a space for local artists to showcase their talents,” she continues. “The museum converges contemporary aesthetics and unbounded expectations, allowing visitors to view art beyond traditional assumptions of abstract art and modernist photography.”

The Hotel at the University of Maryland contains 43,000 square feet of meeting space and 18 distinct meeting rooms, as well as on-site catering.
