CRDA Approves Entertainment Grants

By Brittany Trevick

Last week, the Board of the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority approved funding for 13 entertainment grants in 2015.

The money amounts to $313,343.75 for a variety of events, including the Atlantic City Airshow, Seafood Festival and the Atlantic City Triathlon, which will take place throughout the year. The awards were handed out on a competitive basis with money from the Community Development Entertainment Event Grant Program.

“The State’s strategic goal is to encourage and expand the non-gaming attractions in Atlantic City,” says John Palmieri, executive director, CRDA.  “These proven events, along with the inclusion of some new ones, will continue to drive increased tourism.”

The board also approved the City of Atlantic City Planning Board’s plan to repurpose the former Atlantic Club and its surrounding properties into resort amenities with recreation and entertainment attractions. Additionally, they approved a total of $125,000 to finish the demotion of structures along the Black Horse Pike.

“This stretch of roadway is one of three main corridors that our visitors and residents use to enter Atlantic City,” says Palmieri.  “It is very important that we do what we can to ensure this corridor is clean, safe and visually appealing.”
