Gettysburg Named a Site to See

By Brittany Trevick

As part of FamilyFun magazine’s annual travel survey, readers of the publication voted Gettysburg the second-best area to visit in the Northeast region of the United States.

“This is a great honor,” says Norris Flowers, president, Destination Gettysburg. “To be selected by families themselves makes this designation even more meaningful. Gettysburg is a great family getaway, and the experience this destination offers children of all ages keeps growing.”

Gettysburg was bested only by the American Museum of Natural History in New York. Voters—who were made up of 2,000 families with children ages 3–12—were surveyed on a total of 460 destinations across the country.

Other sites on the list included Ogunquit, Maine; the Bronx Zoo, New York; Niagara Falls; and The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia.

“The Travel Awards are such a unique program because we rely on real families to vote on their favorite destinations—from awe-inspiring science museums to charming American towns with rich history and culture,” says Ann Hallock, editor-in-chief of the magazine. “The winners in each category represent places where families have formed lasting memories, and offer adventures for all types of interests, from animal lovers to history and science buffs.”

The magazine reaches 4.6 million readers, and its parent company, Meredith Publications, has a monthly audience of 70 million. Other magazines include Parents and Martha Stewart Living.

“As Destination Gettysburg and attractions throughout the region market and create more experiences beyond the Civil War, the destination will continue to attract more families who will stay longer because of the wide variety of fun and engaging experiences,” says Flowers.
