Atlantic City will soon draw a larger number of sporting events and conventions thanks to the creation of the Atlantic City Sports Commission by Meet AC, the city’s tourism development agency, which will power the commission.
Mayor Don Guardian announced today the formation of the commission—a vision of Jim Wood, Meet AC’s president since June 2014.
“Sports is big business and through the formation of the Atlantic City Sports Commission we are positioning Atlantic City to attract additional sporting events to our city year-round,” says Wood.
The commission is a boon for the city as a recent study conducted by the National Association of Sports Commissions found amateur sport events generate nearly $8 billion a year. There are also more than 1,000 sport event rights holders who plan multiple events each year, creating additional revenue.
“The formation of the AC Sports Commission is one more fantastic, non-gaming attraction that Atlantic City will build its future upon,” says Mayor Guardian.
