New Branding for Niagara Falls

By M+E Staff

Back in 1801, Theodosia—daughter of future vice president Aaron Burr—and Joseph Alston left their home in Albany and headed to Niagara Falls with nine pack horses on what the Alstons called their “Bridal Tour.” That trip launched the reputation of the Falls as “the honeymoon capital of the world.”

Now, more than two centuries later, the destination is hoping to sharpen awareness of Niagara County as a destination for meetings and conventions. Destination Niagara USA has changed the name of the Conference & Event Center Niagara Falls to the Niagara Falls Convention Center and introduced a new logo. The change follows Destination Niagara USA’s assumption of operation of the convention center on January 1, as part of a five-year management agreement with USA Niagara Development Corporation, which owns the building.

John Percy, president & CEO of Destination Niagara USA explains: “For several months in advance of assuming this management role, we have had in-depth conversations with the internal sales team, as well as meeting planners across the industry, to determine how to best move forward to effectively market this building. The consistent answer was that ‘Conference’ is misleading and limiting for the types of events that we are actually able to host in this 116,000-square-foot-facility.”
Over the next several months, new and more prominent signage reflecting the name change will go up on the building’s exterior. The interior will also be rebranded along with all sales and marketing materials, including updates to the website, nfconventioncenter.com.

These changes aside, Niagara Falls is still a great place to honeymoon, babymoon, buddymoon or family moon!
