I’m reading a fantastic book right now (Visual Intelligence) and it talks all about how we often overlook most things. There is a phenomenon called refrigerator blindness, which basically means that you open the fridge door and stare endlessly at the contents, unable to find the mayonnaise jar even though it’s staring you right in the face. Do you ever find this happen outside of the kitchen, perhaps even in business situations? We get so used to booking the same venues over and over that we forget about other places. It happened to me just the other day. For years, I’ve passed the Washington Crossing Inn in Washington Crossing, Pa.
It’s right across the river from New Jersey (in fact you cross what has to be the narrowest bridge in creation. I always hold my breath in some ridiculous attempt to somehow make my car skinnier). The Washington Crossing Inn is a lovely historic spot to meet and eat. The restaurant has a fantastic landscaped terrace that on a beautiful fall day is just the spot, but don’t worry, it’s not just for sunny days. There are banquet halls that accommodate two–180 guests throughout the year. The mood is historic, yet far from stuffy. It’s my new favorite place for meetings with a meal.
