The National Hockey League (NHL) announced that Seattle will host the 2024 Discover NHL Winter Classic. The city’s team, the Kraken, will face the Vegas Golden Knights on Jan. 1, 2024, at T-Mobile Park, the home field of the Seattle Mariners. This will be the first outdoor match for the Kraken, whose first season began in 2021.

“Outdoor hockey is at the essence of our game and the way many of our players grew up playing,” says Seattle Kraken General Manager Ron Francis in a prepared statement. “We are thrilled to have the chance to showcase this in Seattle.”

The match will continue the tradition started by the NHL in 2008 of hosting a regular-season outdoor game at the start of the new year.

“Over 40,000 fans will witness the beauty and grace of our wonderful game in a venue that showcases the Puget Sound surrounded by the Cascade and Olympic Mountains,” notes Kraken CEO Tod Leiweke, in a prepared statement

Alongside hosting professional sports games, T-Mobile Park, a nearly 9-acre property, boasts numerous spaces for hosting private events as well. There are over 15 options for planners to choose from, with capacity for groups from 150 to 2,000.
