Boutique Modernism on Salem’s Streetscape

By Amanda Christensen

Opening in January 2023, the Holman Riverfront Park, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, will offer boutique modernism on the streetscape of downtown Salem, Oregon. The 127-room hotel will provide amenities including valet parking, an on-site cafe, a restaurant concept that will open in March 2023, and event space options for diverse gatherings.

“The seventh floor is going to be really unique,” says Matt Smith, general manager of the property. “There are two hospitality suites that are something that really isn’t in the Salem market. … [They] could be used for informal business meetings, they’ll have a seating area plus a board-style table [where] guests will be able to plug in and cast up to a 65-inch LED TV.” These suites will also have kitchenettes, allowing for myriad gatherings beyond business, including casual functions or wedding showers.

Along with these suites, the boardroom and patio on the 7th floor can seat up to 14 guests and offers endless views of Minto-Brown Island Park, Riverfront Park, and the Salem Convention Center.

“Our Holman Ballroom, which is on the main floor, can be separated out into three individual rooms, [and it’s] right at about 1,400 square feet,” Smith says—flexibility that offers planners a chance to get creative.

Guests can also be active in the hotel’s fitness center, and grab a bite to eat or sip a coffee at the first-floor bistro, Cora Cafe. The bistro will serve three meals a day until the restaurant opens in the spring, Smith notes.

A rich history makes the Holman Riverfront a standout venue in downtown Salem. The hotel sits on the historic site of the Holman Building—named after Joseph Holman, who is credited as one of the first settlers in Salem—which was once home to Oregon’s first legislative government from 1855 to 1875.

“We take that [history] very seriously and with a lot of pride,” Smith says.
