In mid-October, Under Canvas—a hospitality company focused on upscale, outdoor accommodations—announced its newest outlet, which will be its first in the Pacific Northwest region. Under Canvas Columbia River Gorge is perched along the majestic Columbia River Gorge in Washington’s White Salmon River Valley, an area that has been long appreciated for its famed waterfalls and elegant wineries, surrounded by pine and oak forests.
Under Canvas Columbia River Gorge will open for its inaugural season next May, and is now accepting reservations for stays through next October. The property offers panoramic views of the Cascade Range and Oregon’s Mount Hood as well as access to the White Salmon River, a 44-mile tributary of the Columbia River. A scenic, hour-long drive along the Columbia River from Portland, Oregon, brings guests to the camp; it is just 25 miles from Hood River, Oregon, and less than 15 miles from White Salmon, Washington. Guests can take advantage of the camp’s wine-country location by visiting any of the 10 wineries located within 10 miles of the property.
“Our guests have been asking for a camp in Washington since the brand’s inception,” says May Lilley, chief marketing officer for Under Canvas, in a prepared statement. “So we’re thrilled to now have a presence in the Pacific Northwest, home to adventurous people who love spending time in nature and spectacularly beautiful outdoor destinations.”
Upon arrival, guests will find upscale, safari-inspired canvas tents perched atop elevated private decks, each furnished with a king-size bed, cozy linens, bedside lanterns, a gas fireplace, and an ensuite bathroom. Specialized accommodation options include the Stargazer Tent, complete with a viewing window above the bed to watch for stars and constellations; as well as the Mount Hood Suite Tent, which features two tents adjoined by a private deck and its own outdoor area, making it a good option for a small group.
Under Canvas can cater to groups of less than 30 up to larger corporate retreats and full camp buyouts for up to 250. Group reservations require a 10-tent minimum booking. Booking an Under Canvas camp for your event provides attendees access to delectable culinary experiences, outdoor team-building adventures, and stunning natural beauty in all directions. At Under Canvas Columbia River Gorge, groups can dine on seasonal breakfast and dinner items such as Columbia River salmon, grab-and-go lunch items and snacks, among others. Other Under Canvas locations include those in Arizona, Maine, Montana, South Dakota, Tennessee, and Utah.
