The DoubleTree by Hilton Spokane City Center has become the first hotel in Eastern Washington to receive the Green Seal™ certification status. After successfully meeting the environmental requirements under the GS-33 Standard for Hotels & Lodging Properties, the hotel was awarded the Green Seal™ Certification – Bronze.
“I can’t express how excited we are to receive our Green Seal certification,” said Mike McLeod, General Manager. “What makes this achievement even more special is knowing that every single team member at our hotel, from the Kitchen to Housekeeping to Finance, played a role to make this happen. We are proud to be the first hotel in Spokane County to commercially compost food through a locally-based organic processing facility. Now that we have reached the first level of Green Seal, we will continue to work towards earning our Silver status in the coming year. Our efforts will not stop as we take extra steps to inform our guests about our environmental commitment and engage them to participate at a higher level of sustainability, which we know they will appreciate.”
In order to qualify for the award, the DoubleTree by Hilton Spokane City Center had to demonstrate sustainable practices in over 20 specific areas including water resource management; reuse and recycling; waste minimization and energy efficiency. The hotel is now one of only four hotels within the state to have this distinction.
