First Thompson Hotel to Open in the Pacific Northwest

Commune Hotels & Resorts – along with Geolo Capital and Touchstone, a Seattle-based real estate firm – have jointly announced plans for a ground-up, mixed-use development. The new space will include hotel, residential and retail components and will operate under the Thompson Hotels flag as Thompson Seattle.

“We are confident that our partnership with the teams at Thompson Hotels and Geolo Capital will result in an innovative hotel, residential and retail property in what is a key area of Seattle’s urban community,” said Douglas Howe, principal and president of Touchstone. “Together, we have created a vision that will combine the city’s energy and culture into a tangible experience.”

Thompson Seattle, currently projected to open in spring 2016, will become Thompson Hotel’s first property in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States.

Thompson Seattle will come to life with the visual conceptions from architectural teams of Washington-based firms Olson Kundig and Jensen Fey, and interior firm Munge Leung, under the direction of Commune Hotel’s in-house design team.

Located in the heart of downtown at the northeast corner of 1st Avenue and Stewart Street, the 12-story building will offer unrivaled views of surrounding Puget Sound and Olympic Mountain Range. Adjacent to the world-famous Pike Place Market, Thompson Seattle will provide convenient access to the city’s financial center and recreational activities in nearby Lake Union.

“Our entry into the Seattle market is an exciting monument for the Thompson Hotels brand,” said Niki Leondakis, CEO of Commune Hotels & Resorts, the international, multi-brand hotel company which manages and operates Thompson Hotels. “We are fortunate to partner with Touchstone, given the company’s strong track record in developing commercial real estate in the area. Our joint efforts on Thompson Seattle will allow us to cultivate an environment that resonates with the local community and provide travelers with an authentic Seattle experience.”

Future guests and tenants of Thompson Seattle can look forward to the 159 guest rooms, 97 residences, a signature ground-floor restaurant concept, subterranean parking and an estimated 1,600 square feet of retail space, along with a rooftop deck and 9,500 square feet of indoor/outdoor space.
