This past December, Boise welcomed Jack’s Urban Meeting Place (JUMP), a nonprofit, interactive creative center and community-gathering place. Named for Idaho agribusiness icon J.R. Simplot—founder of the agricultural supply company J.R. Simplot Company—the center’s six-story, 65,000-square-foot main building includes five interactive learning studios. Each studio’s name indicates the activity that can be explored and shared within the space. “Share” is where chefs—both professional and amateur—can share recipes and community through food. “Move” is for physical activity, such as dance, yoga and tai chi. “Make” is for builders and inventors. “Play” is for filmmakers and digital media designers, and “Inspire” is for sharing dreams, ideas and beliefs.
The site also includes various event and meeting spaces—such as JUMP Room, The Loft and Pioneer Room—as well as a collection of 52 vintage tractors and steam engines in honor of Simplot’s agricultural roots. (The full tractor and steam engine collection will be displayed when construction is complete at the end of 2016.)
