NYC & Company celebrated the fourth annual Global Meetings Industry Day (GMID) with the most attended meeting planner event in the Tri-State Area on Thursday, April 4. While Manhattan and Brooklyn glowed blue in honor of Meetings Mean Business Coalition's (MMBC) signature color, NYC & Company recognized the importance of face-to-face meetings and their impact on the global economy as well as New York City.

“Global Meetings Industry Day is a significant annual celebration that helps restate the importance of face-to-face meetings in our community,” says Jerry Cito, executive vice president, convention development at NYC & Company. “This was a particularly successful year for NYC & Company, with the highest attended Tri-State Meeting Planner event to-date, along with successful activations in the Midwest and on the West Coast, and globally in Seoul and Tokyo.”

From sundown to 2 a.m., the Javits Center’s glass-enclosed 15-story Crystal Palace, the Empire State Building, and the spires of One Bryant Park and 151 West 42nd St. glowed blue to honor GMID. In Lower Manhattan, One World Trade Center and Pier 17 at the Seaport District also participated in the lighting. This year, Brooklyn’s Coney Island Parachute Jump joined the GMID lightings for the first time.

“It continues to be an honor to annually light New York City blue in celebration of GMID,” Cito says. “NYC & Company is pleased to spotlight the impact of our industry globally and encourage reflection on the power of face-to-face meetings.”

NYC & Company was also represented at the PCMA Knowledge Exchange as part of GMID in Seoul, South Korea as well as several GMID events throughout the United States.
