The International Live Events Association announced recognition of the following event professionals who recently earned the Certified Special Events Professional designation.

The Hotel at Oberlin Offers Sustainable Meetings

One of the most eco-friendly hotels in the world, The Hotel at Oberlin in Ohio, offers sustainable meetings and environmental team building exercises. They’ve partnered with Common Ground—The Cindy Nord Center for Renewal, for team-building workshops.

Common Ground is located 30 acres in of the Vermilion River Valley near Oberlin, and offers trained guides, zip lining, two spiral staircases, three aerial bridges and 13 tree platforms. Their activities include a two-and-half-hour Canopy Tour that finishes off with an 850-foot zip line over the Vermilion River.

Kimpton’s World Series Wager Means Everyone Wins

This week we may witness history as the Chicago Cubs travel to Cleveland and continue their bid in the World Series where they could end up winning the championship for the first time in more than 100 years. The stakes are high, with everyone making wagers on the final team standing—including Kimpton Hotels. Last week Kimpton’s combined Chicago properties (the Allegro, Monaco, Palomar, Burnham and the Gray) sent a goat and the following message to their partner, The Schofield Hotel in Ohio.

Open for Business in Boise

On Thursday, Oct. 20, Boise Centre officially celebrated the grand opening of City Centre Plaza, which includes the new Clearwater Analytics Building, Boise Centre East, Main Street Station and Boise State University Computer Science Department. The expansion includes 36,000 square feet of additional meeting and event space, including a new ballroom that can accommodate 800 guests seated, eight new meeting rooms, and two levels of pre-function and lobby space.

Environmentally Friendly Hotel Opens in Ohio

The Hotel Oberlin in Ohio, is leading the way in the hotel industry for creating environmentally sustainable hotels.

The standout hotel is the only one in the US to use solar, geothermal and radiant heating and cooling systems. It’s also one of only five hotels in the U.S. specifically designed for the LEED Platinum certification from the US Green Building Council. Developed by SMART Hotels, the hotel is managed by The Olympia Companies and owned by Oberlin College.

On Sept. 13, 2016, one of the most environmentally sustainable hotels in the world, The Hotel at Oberlin, will open in Ohio. Sustainability has been an important consideration throughout the hotel’s development—all companies hired to develop and manage the hotel focus on creating sustainable design and features that complement the environmentally sustainable hotel.
