Carola van der Hoeff felt, “honored and proud” as she walked up the dim gala ballroom to accept the 2019 Global Business Events Executive of the Year award.
The award, given out by PCMA, one of the largest business strategist communities in the world, recognizes excellence of a professional who has a passion to advance and educate the global meetings industry.
Van der Hoeff is the chief operating officer (COO) and congress director at International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP). The FIP is a global federation of 140 national associations of pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists. As the COO, Van der Hoeff’s role is to oversee FIP daily operations and improve the internal process of the nonprofit to fulfill its mission to, “meet the world’s health care needs,” according to FIP’s website. And as congress director, she manages the FIP congresses, which are held throughout the world several times a year.
“Working with all the partners in a specific country is great,” Van der Hoeff says. “I understand that for each country it is very important to host an International Congress because it brings in a lot of business and knowledge to them. My role for FIP is to get the best out of it while respecting my business partners.”
Van der Hoeff is also a board member of the Associations & Conference (AC) Forum, Europe's only networking platform exclusively for associations that organize congresses. The AC provides a platform for exchanging ideas, expertise, and knowledge among others who work in the congress industry.
Carola is thankful to be working in the conference management industry and is grateful for being recognized for her work.
