For Global Meetings Industry Day (GMID), taking place April 4, PCMA president and CEO Sherrif Karamat, CAE, reflects on the growth and improvements made in the meetings and events industry over the years.

“In January 2019, PCMA launched the first Global Forum on Economic and Social Progress bringing together government, business leaders and industry to engage in meaningful dialogue on the challenges and opportunities ahead of us. It is exciting to see our industry seize the spotlight. I am proud of PCMA chapters hosting events to advocate the profound effect business events have on society and the economy. Some are leveraging the power of meetings to address societal problems such as human trafficking," Karamat says.

He also mentions how economic improvement can lead to societal good for all people, and he believes the industry is a clear example of this positive change.

"Our industry is sending a clear message today: meetings are the catalyst for global change," he says.
