Media Coverage of X Games in Minneapolis Boosts Tourism

On July 13-16, U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis hosted the X Games for the first year of a two-year hosting. The X Games are expected to bring 100,000 people to Minneapolis and the Mall of America over the weekend, which will give national and international media exposure; as well as the 8,300 hospitality and tourism jobs that the X Games will bring to the city.

In April, at the Pure Michigan Governor’s Conference on Tourism in Detroit, Dave Lorenz of Travel Michigan, representing the Michigan Travel Commission, and Julie Pingston, representing the Tourism Industry Coalition of Michigan (TICOM), presented the 2017 awards.

Chef Michael Mina to Open First Restaurant in Nashille

Turnberry Associates has announced the JW Marriott Nashville will welcome Michelin Star Chef Michael Mina to Tennessee.

The new restaurant, Bourbon Steak, is set to open in 2018 with 533 rooms. It will offer guests a modern American steakhouse and timeless dining experience.

Hotel brand and management company Dream Hotel Group has announced three new hospitality executives to lead Dream Hollywood in Los Angeles: Ayo Akinsete as general manager, Kendall Viola as director of sales and marketing, and Carly Skinner as manager. The team will lead the hotel through its February 2017 launch.

San Francisco Marriott Marquis and San Jose Marriott Introduce Healthy Meetings

San Francisco Marriott Marquis and San Jose Marriott have introduced “Meet Well,” a new team-building initiative that gives groups a healthier option. The initiative will include healthy banquet and coffee break menus, active meeting options, wellness topics and speakers, body-friendly seat spacing, meeting planning perks and volunteer options.

The Commons Hotel In Minneapolis Offers Big Rewards For Small Meetings

The Commons Hotel, located in Minneapolis on the University of Minnesota campus, announced their newest offering: Small Meetings = Big Rewards. The new program is a way to entice planners to hold meetings with 10–100 room nights through March 31, 2017.

Tips For Using Social Media In Meetings And Events

A study on the important of social media in the meetings and events industry conducted by American Express Meetings & Events found usage of social media has increased in the industry, and about 45 percent of planners see the value in online engagement.
