The Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau announced that 2016 was its highest convention booking year ever with 713 events and 903,199 hotel room nights secured for future years. This is an 18.2 percent increase in the number of events and a 5.8 percent increase in room nights secured during 2015.
The Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau has announced the appointment of Svetlana Yazovskikh to the position of executive director of tourism. Yazovskikh has been with PHLCVB for nine years; her most recent position was the senior international tourism manager.

In an effort to expand globally, the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau has appointed Atlantic Link as its in-country representation firm based in Copenhagen. Atlantic Link will work with tour operators to develop itineraries that incorporate Philadelphia and the landmarks the city offers.

1. What are you looking forward to in your new role as chief administrative officer at the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau?
PHL Life Sciences, a division of the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau, presented their Ultimate Solution Award to the American Association for Cancer Researchand its CEO Margaret Foti, Ph.D., MD (hc). Presented annually, the Ultimate Solution Award is given to individuals and organizations that have raised Philadelphia’s profile as a meeting destination for the life sciences. The program was held on Sept. 14 at the National Constitution Center.
Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau has selected Richard Staub as the senior vice president, convention sales.
In his role, Staub will be in charge of leading the CVB’s convention sales and services team in hitting booking goals through the marketing of Philadelphia and the Pennsylvania Convention Center. He will start in September.
The Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau revealed it will support Meeting Professionals International’s Healthcare Meeting Compliance Certificate course, working as the title sponsor of the program for one year.
Accredited by Saint Louis University, the program, provides participants with vital information on compliance regulations, laws and techniques for managing healthcare meetings.
A packed summer convention calendar likely resulted in a huge boon for Center City hotels, which saw record hotel occupancy in June.
Overall occupancy peaked at 89.4 percent—the highest monthly occupancy on record. The average daily rate also broke a record, witnessing $212.95, the highest since October 2014. The Government Finance Officers Association, the Biotechnology Industrial Organization convention and the International Society for Technology in Education convention helped grow midweek occupancy.
