Tin Can Alley, a repurposed 100-year-old former tin can factory in Tacoma, Washington, offered the perfect backdrop for a “Parts Unknown”–themed event. The affair was honored with the prestigious “Meeting of the Year” award at the national NACE convention.
The building is also the world headquarters of PJ Hummel & Co. Owner PJ Hummel prides herself on creative brainstorming, exceptional product delivery and world-class execution for every event she hosts. For those held in Tin Can Alley, a venue dedicated to “human connectivity,” planners have unlimited access to her collection of vintage design elements—not to mention her design magic.
The layout was designed to help attendees view the stage without having to turn around during the keynote speech. Designers left the front of the tables empty for unobstructed sightlines. Centerpieces—a mix of tapestries, Old World globes and travel books—were placed on vintage textile table runners with antique lamps lining the aisles.
The “Parts Unknown” menu showcased delicious global fare, including Thai vegetable curry and fresh shrimp spring rolls, all wrapped in a simple linen napkin tied with cotton cords. This innovative tablescape also would lend itself to a travel-, wanderlust- or cultural-themed event.
