AEG Management Leads LA Convention Center to Millions in Reserves

Celebrating three years with the Los Angeles Convention Center on Dec. 20, AEG Management is celebrating another achievement of leading the convention center to $6.1 million in reserves and annual operating surplus. This ended in a record-breaking financial result for the LACC along with many other improvements since the partnership began in 2013.

Since the management change, the LACC increased operating profits each year and surpassing its initial goal of $2.1 million in the first five years in only three years with $6.1 million instead.

Hotel Teatro Awarded “Top Hotel”

The readers of Travel + Leisure named Hotel Teatro in Denver Best Hotel in their World’s Best Awards and Conde Nast Traveler’s Readers’ Choice Awards. They were also named the “Top Hotel in Denver” in Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Awards. Conde Nast Traveler also named Hotel Teatro as number one of the “25 Top Hotels in the West.”

Pod Brooklyn Set to Open Spring 2017

BD Hotels and CB Developers are opening another Pod Hotel in New York City, this time in Willamsburg. Set to open in spring of 2017, Pod Brooklyn will be a micro-hotel comprised of modular guest rooms.

Shade Hotel Opens its Doors

On Nov. 18, Shade Hotel, located in Redondo Beach, California celebrated its grand opening. The luxury hotel located on the forefront of the city’s Waterfront Revitalization Project. The debut kicked off a spectacular public event, which attracted thousands of guests, live performances/entertainment, and a promise to seek more new accommodations and services.

AF & Co. Releases Trend Report

Celebrating its 11th anniversary as one of the country’s leading boutique hospitality and restaurant consulting firms, Andrew Freeman & Co. is very excited to release its 2017 trend report Be Prepared—This Is Not A Test. Their report comes out annually and features hotels, food, hospitality marketing and beverages for the upcoming year. Many restaurants and hotels need to be prepared for the unknown when it comes to how well the hospitality field’s outcome will be by the end of the year. Flexibility is key to meet the increased demands that the year may bring.

Q Hotels Announces Plans for Marriott Hotel in South Arlington

Q Hotels has announced plans to develop a dual-branded Marriott hotel property in south Arlington, Tex. Construction is set to start this December and will finish in summer 2018. The combined SpringHill Suites and TownePlace Suites will have a total of 230 rooms.

Amenities include an event lawn entertainment space, a ballroom, an expanded fitness area, steam room, dry sauna and restaurant dedicated to healthy eating. The hotel is located 8 miles away from the DFW Airport and 3 miles south of the Arlington entertainment area.

San Diego Convention Center Announced New Digital Advertising Program

The San Diego Convention Center Corporation has partnered with—Smart City Networks, the leading internet provider in the nation—to work on a new digital advertising program.

"This digital projection system is one more way that we are enhancing our customer service experience at the San Diego Convention Center," says Clifford "Rip" Rippetoe, CFE, president and CEO, San Diego Convention Center. "Our customers have the opportunity to customize what they want to say, to whom and where through a visual tool never offered in our facility before."

MPI Announces Organizational Changes

Meeting Professionals International, the world’s largest meeting and event industry association, has announed an organizational realignment.
