Two adjacent buildings at the intersection of SW Park and Alder streets in Portland, Oregon, are coming together to form one sophisticated hotel. Purchased by Provenance Hotels and NBP Capital, the two historic properties, the Cornelius Hotel and the Woodlark Building, are being reimagined as the new hotel, The Woodlark. Construction on the 150-room hotel began in November and is scheduled to be completed in March 2018. 

Built in 1908, the Cornelius Hotel has sat empty in recent years. The Woodlark Building, built in 1912, was a retail and office building.

“Portland is an influencer of national and international trends, and we are excited to channel the city’s energy and sophistication into The Woodlark,” says Lauren Noecker of NBP Capital. 

The Woodlark is being designed by Oculus Inc. (formerly Staicoff Design Company), R&A Design and Smith Hanes Studio. 

“Our goal is to create an experience that reflects Portland’s lush surroundings and balances beauty with substance, nuance and soul,” says Bashar Wali, president of Provenance Hotels. “We aim to fully embrace the Cornelius Hotel’s original motto, ‘House of Welcome’ and make The Woodlark a place for both visitors and locals to connect with the city’s offerings.”

The Woodlark will include the restaurant Bullard by Top Chef alumnus Doug Adams, who says it will “marry the spirit of [Portland]” with his own culinary heritage. The hotel will also feature 2,500 square feet of meeting space, complimentary Wi-Fi, and pillow and spiritual menus.  

Napa Valley’s Meritage Resort & Spa recently debuted a new program designed to help groups gathering at the resort achieve more “Mindful Meetings.” The program, offered in partnership with Bare Health, can be custom tailored for groups and includes the following wellness-focused activities: meditation, yoga in the vineyard, sound healing, and the creation of juices, smoothies and morning elixirs at the resort’s brand-new Food & Wine Center.

 

After continually hearing that meeting planners were looking to infuse more health, wellness and sustainability into their agendas, Hilton Hotels & Resorts created Meet with Purpose in 2015.
