Tory Coursen and Hector Martinez were recently named assistant general manager and director of sales and marketing for AC Hotel Los Angeles South Bay.

1. What are you looking forward to the most in your new role?

Tory Coursen: I am most looking forward to building a strong culture of genuine service and passion for hospitality for both internal and external guests.

Hector Martinez: I’m looking forward working in this great city and forming partnerships with local accounts.

2. How do you think past experiences have prepared you for this role?

TC: With my strong luxury background, I am able to cater to all different types and styles of guests, as well as cater to a diverse staff.

HM: Starting from the front desk, I’ve had the opportunity to work in multiple roles and hotel brands, learning what guests are truly looking for. I’m excited to put my experiences into this brand new and unique hotel.

3. How did you get into the industry?

TC: When I was 15 years old, a family friend talked about his travels and lifestyle from working in hospitality. From his experiences, I knew this was something I wanted to do, and do well!

HM: “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.” As a child, both parents worked in the hotel industry, and with that we had lots of opportunity for “weekend staycations.” Looking at the friendly faces as my family and I walked into a Marriott, I knew this was the company I wanted to work for.

4. What are you hoping to achieve in your new role?

TC: In this new role, I look forward to growing into an even stronger leader in the hospitality industry, as well as helping cultivate an environment to groom my managers and staff to grow into larger roles themselves.

HM: Build strong relationships with both internal and external clients and distinguish our brand from the local market.

5. What do you enjoy most about the industry?

TC: I thoroughly enjoy the relationships I have built with both internal and external guests. I love creating special moments and being a part of a guest's experience that they can remember for a lifetime.

HM: The people, the friendships I’ve made along the way. The process of making ideas come to a reality and the WOW LOOK on clients faces' when our hotel staff goes above and beyond! It’s all about the details!
