Jason Epsenhart was recently appointed director of facilities at The Grove Resort Orlando.
1. What are you looking forward to the most in your new role?
My objective here at the Grove is to take exceptional care of the facility and help this beautiful property grow. We have new buildings coming online and new amenities for our guests and owners to enjoy. Seeing the hard work and talent that my team brings to the table and watching them dedicate themselves to the resort is amazing. Seeing people grow with the resort in their careers is very satisfying.
2. How do you think past experiences have prepared you for this role?
My work history started when I was 16 years old in Las Vegas. At that age I operated a ring toss game for Circus Circus Casino. Though I knew it was not the job I wanted for the rest of my career, it taught me about hospitality and what it means to be hospitable to our guests. That always stayed with me no matter my role or location. At the end of the day, my job is to take care of people and the resort. Safety and functionality is our job. I never forget how it felt making all those children happy when they played games and won prizes. I strive to make our guests that happy when they visit the Grove.
3. How did you get into the industry?
Living in Las Vegas, all the employers of choice were hotels and casinos. I was trained to be an HVAC tech and never imagined that it would lead me to working in hotels. But once I started at the Reserve Hotel and Casino back in 1998 as an HVAC tech, I never looked back. I figured out at an early age that I was being paid to make people happy when they visited the property and keep them safe. What a rewarding career for anyone that likes helping others.
4. What are you hoping to achieve in your new role?
I want to see my team grow and learn so that we can continue to see the Grove grow. This is a beautiful property that I truly feel is second to none. I want our owners and guests to feel that they are getting a tremendous value by owning or staying here. Preventive maintenance programs and team growth are my main objectives.
5. What do you enjoy most about the industry?
Building relationships with owners and guests. Being challenged every day and learning about new technology. Seeing our impact for the guest experience and employees taking pride in what they do. These are things that always made me happy within my career. Being with Benchmark now only furthers this for me. The culture they set is amazing and is very focused on people being happy and truly wanting to be the employer of choice. They allow us to be leaders and help us learn so we are always ready to serve our guests.
