Juan Carlos Gonzalez was recently appointed director of sales and marketing for Paradisus Los Cabos and ME Cabo.

1. What are you looking forward to the most in your new role?

I’m most looking forward to working with my old colleagues at Melia Hotels International. I worked for the company for 15 years across various countries, and the company’s most valuable asset is the friendly and helpful team members. I’m also very happy to return to Los Cabos, as this place is a true paradise.

2. How do you think past experiences have prepared you for this role?

Los Cabos is a well-known luxury destination with high-end clientele. It is precisely the market I have focused on in the past, and this new role is a natural fit.

3. How did you get into the industry?

My family has always worked in the tourism industry in Puerto Vallarta. My father, a long-time hotelier, asked me if I was going to be a hotelier as well. Of course, I originally answered him, “no” after seeing how much work it entailed. But I had the opportunity to get my master’s degree in hotel management in the Canary Islands, and I understood that our passion for hospitality runs in the family.

4. What are you hoping to achieve in your new role?

Being the director of sales and marketing for Paradisus Los Cabos and ME Cabo is a huge challenge as the two hotels are completely different. Paradisus Los Cabos is an all-inclusive luxury hotel, part of Leading Hotels of the World. On the other hand, ME Cabo is a Lifestyle EP Hotel. My main goal is to create a strong sales team for both properties, understanding the positioning and the goals for each.

5. What do you enjoy most about the industry?

My favorite aspect of the industry is being able to travel and meet many interesting people. Being a hotelier opens a completely different world and allows you to travel to places you can only dream of. The hospitality industry can be tough at times, but I love the rewarding feeling of working with my team and reaching our goals together.

Phillip Blane and Adela Toto were recently named general manager and director of sales and marketing for Kimpton Glover Park Hotel.

Gary Gill, telephone operator for The Broadmoor, earns the Heart of Hospitality award from The Above and Beyond Foundation.

1. How do you go above and beyond?

Our guests have a high expectation of service from The Broadmoor. Every team member strives to exceed that expectation; but, as I found out early on, the small things matter just as well.
