Rob Mallinger, general manager of Kimpton Hotel Monaco Pittsburgh, is getting to know guests and sharing tips for getting around Pittsburgh during new Beers with the GM program. Here's what he has to say about it:

1. What exactly does 'Beers with the GM' entail?

The Beers with the GM program gives the opportunity for any hotel guest to arrange to meet up in our Living Room for a local beer and some good conversation every Monday from 5 to 6 p.m. I’m happy to talk about the city, the hotel or whatever else the guest is interested in. It’s always great when guests form a relationship with our team, and this is a fun way to do just that.

2. Who can participate?

Any hotel guest is welcome to participate, but of course they need to be over 21 to enjoy a beer. Those interested just need to sign up at least 72 hours in advance through the Offers page on our website.

3. Can non-beer drinkers also join?

Of course! We’re happy to provide a non-alcoholic alternative for those who don’t drink beer.

4. What is your favorite kind of beer?

After a long day at work, almost any kind of beer will do the trick. But I recently found myself on vacation in Florida over a number of rainy days. I ordered a Big Wave from Kona Brewing Co., which is great when at the beach, despite the gray weather.

5. What are you hoping this program will accomplish?

Travel can be very isolating, so we’re hoping that this program brings back that human connection for those on the road. We’re happy to provide this as a resource for those looking to learn more about the hotel and the city, and we always love getting to know our guests better. It’s a win-win all around.

6. For visitors, what is one brewery you would say is a must?

Penn Brewery, located about 1.5 miles away in the Northside neighborhood, is a great one. It’s the oldest and largest brewery in Pittsburgh and one of the oldest craft breweries in the country. I recommend trying the Penn Pilsner, it’s a Pittsburgh favorite, and we frequently use it for guest amenities at the hotel.
