Kristin Duncan was recently appointed general manager of The Renaissance Chicago Downtown Hotel.

1. What are you looking forward to the most in your new role?

It’s such an honor to lead an award-winning hotel that is known for its stylish design and outstanding beverage and food offerings. I am excited to be working with such a talented team that is focused on providing a memorable stay for all of our guests. Channeling the team’s creativity will ensure the Renaissance Chicago Downtown is always evolving and offering something new and intriguing for our guests.

2. How do you think past experiences have prepared you for this role?

Having served as general manager at three other properties prior to coming to the Renaissance Chicago Downtown, I have learned a lot about leading a team and how to develop and execute our strategies. I hope to build upon these experiences and support our team in continuing to drive results for the hotel.

3. How did you get into the industry?

I believe I was born with a love of travel and of discovering new places. It was always a thrill staying at hotels with my family. During college, I had various jobs with travel agencies and restaurants, which fueled my love for the hospitality industry. Upon graduation from college, I started with Marriott’s management training program in a sales position and worked my way up into a variety of leadership roles.

4. What are you hoping to achieve in your new role?

The Renaissance Chicago Downtown has an outstanding track record of success within our company and in the Chicago market. My goal is to channel the talent of our team to keep that momentum going and to evolve and build upon our offerings so that we continue to be the preferred hotel in downtown Chicago.

5. What do you enjoy most about the industry?

In the hospitality industry, no two days are the same! It offers a busy, fast-paced environment where you get to interact with very interesting and dynamic associates and guests. The people I work with have a genuine spirit to serve our guests and each other, and we have a lot of fun while doing it!
