Michael Botha was recently appointed regional director of revenue management for BENCHMARK.

1. What are you looking forward to the most in your new role?  

I am excited to have reconnected with several people within Benchmark I have worked with in the past. Benchmark has a great portfolio and outstanding leadership team, so the opportunity to work in this environment was an opportunity I could not pass up.

2. How do you think past experiences have prepared you for this role?  

Having worked for different brands and in multiple markets, I have been exposed to a wide variety of challenges in my career. Coupled with working with some of the best people in the industry over the years who have helped guide me along the way, it's all led me to this point in my career.

3. How did you get into the industry?  

Since I was young, I enjoyed travel and always knew I would get into the industry in some form. After high school I tried my hand at a Bachelor of Commerce degree, but hospitality was my passion. I changed direction to hospitality management and never looked back. I was fortunate enough to get the opportunity to do an internship here in the U.S. after college, and shortly afterward I took on my first revenue manager role and have been doing it ever since.

4. What are you hoping to achieve in your new role?  

I want to have a positive impact on both the hotels I oversee and my revenue team. I want to help them grow in their roles and hopefully one day take over my role.

5. What do you enjoy most about the industry?  

The people and the perks. We get to work with a diverse group of people, all with their own stories and backgrounds. Working closely with some of these people, I have created lifelong friendships and relationships I will always treasure. The perks, well, we get to travel to some really cool places!

Robert Lowe Jr. was recently appointed as a new advisory board member of Arbor Lodging, a hotel investment and management company. Lowe is the current Co-CEO of Lowe, a leading national real estate investment, development and management firm.
