Priya Chandnani was recently hired as the vice president of revenue management for Benchmark, A Global Hospitality Company.
1. What are you looking forward to the most in your new role?
One of the most rewarding aspects of my new role is supporting a team of best-in-class revenue management professionals. I am excited to develop this amazing team as Benchmark moves into its next phase of growth.
2. How do you think past experiences have prepared you for this role?
My first job as a revenue analyst taught me fundamental concepts and best practices. This allowed me to be creative and grow in an evolving discipline like revenue management. I was fortunate to have great mentors along the way who taught me the value of building creative strategies grounded in strong fundamentals. I hope to use these experiences to develop future leaders in revenue management.
3. How did you get into the industry?
As a child, I enjoyed listening to my father’s stories from in-flight catering services at a major international airline. He was a big influence in my decision to choose this field. I followed his footsteps and went to the same hospitality school. My first job was at the front desk and then sales. At NYU, I majored in hospitality studies and found my home in revenue management.
4. What are you hoping to achieve in your new role?
It’s exciting to be a part of revenue management’s evolution where today we not only influence revenue strategies but build efficiencies in cost. I hope to achieve the company’s goal of total profit management. As an industry, we’ve been talking about this for some time now, but our biggest deterrent has been the lack of an industry-wide performance matrix, like RevPAR Index is to room revenue. I see a future where revenue management strategy will influence other facets of hospitality like work flow and development.
5. What do you enjoy most about the industry?
The people. We are a passionate group of individuals focused on creating a memorable experience for our guests. We take pride in our work and celebrate “Being the Difference."
