John Collins Poma has been appointed to the role of sports development manager at Richmond Region Tourism. Poma will primarily work on attracting more sports-related events to the Richmond area.

“John Collins has a unique combination of hospitality industry experience and experience in the sports world that will serve him well in the role of sports development manager,” says Kristin McGrath vice president of sales and services, Richmond Region Tourism.

His previous position was the community outreach manager of The Doorways, formerly the Hospital Hospitality House of Richmond.

Poma has served as an event manager at TEAM Coalition and sales manager at Richmond’s Arena Racing USA. He graduated from the University of Virginia with a bachelor’s degree in foreign affairs and earned his master’s of professional studies in sports management from Georgetown University.

“I’m thrilled to join Richmond Region Tourism and community partners in working to bring new sports events to the area,” says Poma. “As a lifelong resident, it’s exciting to help move the region forward and build upon the success of recent sports events held in the Richmond region.”

After 7 years of planning, the VanDyk Mortgage Convention Center is now open in downtown Muskegon. The official ribbon cutting took place on April 12, 2021.

On September 1, over 1,500 businesses across the country illuminated their buildings with red lights to draw attention to the devastation that the live events and performance art industries have faced as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to a survey commissioned by the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA), frequent travelers feel safer when hotels adhere to AHLA's Stay Safe guidelines, which detail cleaning protocols for hotels during the COVID-19 pandemic.
