• Signature Drink - Mexican Old Fashioned

INGREDIENTS
—2 oz. mezcal
—3 house-made cherry halves*
—1 tsp. raw sugar
—3 dashes bitters
—.5 orange slice

DIRECTIONS
1. Muddle fruit, sugar and bitters in an old fashioned tumbler (short cocktail glass).
2. Add mezcal and ice, stir several times, garnish with orange slice and serve.

* Pit sour Colorado cherries, soak them in simple syrup and Licor 43 for a month or substitute high-end bar cherries, like Luxardo or something similar. Maraschino cherries are not preferred but can be used and will change the flavor profile of the drink.

A unique mix of bitters creates a treat for the senses in this seasonal sip from Corktown’s Two James Spirits. While typically busy hosting tours and private events or slinging craft cocktails in its tasting room, the distillery’s team has shifted its efforts during the coronavirus outbreak. It’s been producing hand sanitizer for hospitals, police and fire departments across the Detroit metro, while lifting spirits with creative curbside cocktail kits.

Seattle’s Foodz Catering is preparing to move into its new home, nicknamed the “factory,” in the Georgetown neighborhood this summer. Four times the size of its current headquarters, it will include a new kitchen, offices and a warehouse. Toast the new digs with the company’s Blueberry Mule—the recipe raises the bar on the sober-curious trend.

INGREDIENTS

—3 oz. fresh-pressed blueberry juice

—juice of half a lime

—ginger beer

—shaved ice

—sprig of mint

—lime wedge

 

Erase any vision you might have of a dude ranch, especially the “City Slicker” version. For the purposes of this story, let’s use the name ranch resort and picture a big dose of vision and thousands of acres for both herds and people to roam. It’s a fairly different option, but one with similar friendliness and the Western spirit of a dude ranch.
