Outside DMC, which is based in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, is a destination management company offering nature-based and cultural team-building experiences that give meeting and event groups an introduction to South Carolina’s Lowcountry.
A coastal region between Charleston, South Carolina, and Savannah, Georgia, the Lowcountry is well-known for fishing, sailing, bird-watching, and historic sites, as well as cultural diversity.
The organization partners with several community groups to give attendees an introduction to Lowcountry culture. One notable partnership features Voices of El Shaddai, an award-winning gospel choir rooted in the Gullah Geechee tradition (a distinct African American culture known for honoring and preserving West African heritage, language, and customs along the southeastern U.S. coast). The group sings at events and shares songs of inspiration. Outside DMC also connects groups with experts to explore topics like oyster regeneration and the historic significance of the indigo plant on Daufuskie Island. Other activities include kayaking, horse-drawn carriage rides, or golf cart tours of Daufuskie’s historic areas.
Situated near Daufuskie Island, Savannah, and Palmetto Bluff is the company’s private, 40-acre chain of islands connected via boardwalk and collectively known as Page Island. Founder of Outside DMC’s parent company Outside Brands, Mike Overton, purchased Page Island with the idea of it being what he calls a “growth center”—a place that takes people out of their comfort zones and allows them the chance to open up. Outside DMC curates memorable Page Island experiences for meeting groups that include team-building exercises, ecotours, oyster roasts, and more.
