The Mirage Hotel & Casino Acquired by Hard Rock International

By Beth Buehler

Hard Rock International (HRI) purchased the licensing and naming rights for Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Las Vegas in May 2020 and vowed to bring the well-known brand to the Las Vegas Strip when the right opportunity presented itself. That occasion officially happened upon the $1.075 billion acquisition of The Mirage Hotel & Casino from MGM Resorts International. HRI assumed control of the property on Dec. 19.

The 3,044-room casino resort will continue to operate as The Mirage Hotel & Casino until renovation and rebranding of the property to Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Las Vegas is completed. Prior to 2020, HRI had no previous operational involvement with the former Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas at its off-strip location.

The Transformation

The process of transforming The Mirage will involve reimagining every aspect of the resort and change the Las Vegas skyline with the addition of a guitar-shaped hotel tower adjacent to Las Vegas Boulevard. Hard Rock expects to release details of the reimagined resort, its new features and attractions, and development timeline at the end of 2023.

All room reservations and meeting and event space bookings will be honored with no action required by guests or group organizers. The 170,000 square feet of meeting and event space includes 26 meeting rooms that can host a maximum of about 2,800 people.

The Mirage at a Glance

The Mirage’s history reaches back to 1989 when the 30-story property opened and became the Strip’s first megaresort. In addition to accommodations, meeting and event space, and a casino, there is a spa, salon, and numerous dining outlets. The Mirage also offers dynamic entertainment including The Beatles LOVE by Cirque du Soleil; Shin Lim: LIMITLESS; and Aces of Comedy series.

Hard Rock History

Beginning with an Eric Clapton guitar, HRI now owns the world’s largest and most valuable collection of authentic music memorabilia at more than 86,000 pieces, which are displayed at 265 locations in over 70 countries around the globe. The locations include owned/licensed or managed hotels, casinos, Rock Shops, live performance venues, and cafes. In 2020, HRI also launched a joint venture known as Hard Rock Digital, an online sportsbook, retail sportsbook, and internet gaming platform.
