Cheryl Shirley was recently hired as the new director of catering at AT&T Executive Hotel and Conference Center in Austin, Texas.

1. What are you looking forward to the most in your new role as the director of catering at AT&T Executive Hotel and Conference Center?

Wyndham Hotel Group Added More Meeting Space To Hotels

The largest hotel company in the world, Wyndham Hotel Group, has 16 iconic brands with about 8,000 hotels.

Recently, they’ve added Dolce Washington Dulles, part of the meetings brand Dolce Hotels and Resorts. Dolce Washington Dulles is under construction, and is due to open late in 2018. The hotel will feature 243 guest rooms and 13,000 square feet of meeting space.

Claridge Hotel in Atlantic City Joins Radisson Brand

Radisson, a world-renowned hotel brand, has partnered with The Claridge Hotel in Atlantic City. Now known as The Claridge—A Radisson Hotel, the hotel was built in 1930; the 24-story hotel was known as the Skyscraper by the Sea and is a landmark reminiscent of the Jazz Age.

Westin Nashville Opens its Doors

The 27-story Westin Nashville has opened in Nashville’s SoBro neighborhood next to Music City Center.

Designed by David Mexico Design Group and Bullock Smith and Partners, the hotel’s 453 guest rooms feature details inspired by the unique culture of Nashville. Additionally, there are three penthouse-style entertainment suites, three hospitality suites and eight executive suites each with individual characteristics.

 If you’ve been reading anything to do with NJM+E, you know we celebrated our first Best of NJ Readers’ Choice awards in August. We’re still on a high from the great event, but we do realize it’s not all about us! We at New Jersey Meetings + Events wanted to take a moment to give a (virtual) round of applause to Harrah’s. The Atlantic City resort hotel opened their Waterfront Conference Center one year ago in September 2015. Happy anniversary! Have you been to Harrah’s? I attended MPI WEC there this past summer and was impressed with the modern look and feel.

Corcoran Expositions Announces Agreement with Water Quality Association

Corcoran Expositions is one of the largest independent trade show organizers in the country, and they’re partnering with the Water Quality Association to assist with exhibit sales and related services for their upcoming trade shows.

“We look forward to working with the Water Quality Association in producing their upcoming trade show,” says Tom Corcoran, founder of the 26-year-old Corcoran Expositions. “We hope to work with them for years to come.”

The Gwen Appoints General Manager

The Gwen, a Luxury Collection Hotel, in Chicago announced the appointment of Scott Stuckey to general manager. Stuckey brings more than 27 years hospitality industry experience to his new position.

He will be responsible for the 300-room hotel’s 15,000 square feet of meeting and event space, Circa restaurant and lounge, and the hotel’s outdoor terrace, Upstairs at the Gwen.

MGM National Harbor to Open This December

The first luxury gaming resort in Washington D.C., MGM National Harbor, is set to open on Dec. 8. Located minutes from the Potomac River, the resort is accepting reservations for stays beginning Dec. 10.

JW Marriott Denver Opens New Event Space

The JW Marriott Denver Cherry Creek has opened a new event space called The Deck. It’s an elevated outdoor space located on the third floor of the hotel.

The venue’s outdoor urban setting features custom hedge walls and can hold up to 140 guests. It offers a variety of amenities such as an indoor foyer and private restrooms.

“We are thrilled to be offering this distinct new event space in the heart of Cherry Creek North,” says JoAnn Wrenn, general manager. “THE Deck is the ideal setting for a gorgeous ceremony or intimate cocktail party.”
