It has been an incredible winter to travel around to various Colorado ski resorts as the snow conditions have been nothing short of terrific. Snowmass, Vail, Beaver Creek, Winter Park, Steamboat Springs, Monarch and Keystone have been part of my Winter 2018/2019 ski agenda, in addition to my home mountain Crested Butte Mountain Resort of course. I’ve written about a couple of these excursions lately and want to share some of the happenings and experiences that are group-friendly and a lot of fun in Steamboat Springs.

I never thought about venturing to Steamboat Springs from Grand County, but that’s exactly what we did after skiing Winter Park Resort and staying at Devil’s Thumb Ranch Resort & Spa in early February. It also was a first for me to stay at The Steamboat Grand, which is the full-service hotel for groups in town and conveniently located just steps from the slopes at Steamboat Resort. There are 328 hotel rooms, condominiums and luxurious penthouses along with 13,500 square feet of indoor and 10,000 square feet of outdoor seasonal meeting and event space.

It’s always a treat to dine at the on-mountain Hazie’s for a ski lunch and on select evenings ride there for dinner on the gondola. Plus there are various sleigh ride and snowcat dinners available to various venues.

New to the food scene are Taco Beast and Timber & Torch, the new centerpiece restaurant for Steamboat Ski Resort’s Gondola Square, which was a complete overhaul of Bear River. The renovation has resulted in indoor seating for 290 at Timber & Torch, a new outdoor heated patio, two indoor/outdoor bars, an exterior fireplace and a new outdoor grill. Named for the resort’s legendary trees and Olympian heritage, Timber & Torch features gastropub-inspired food, an extensive craft beer lineup and signature craft cocktails.

Imagine skiing up to a roaming snowcat for lunch! On Thursday through Monday, it’s possible to score on four types of fresh and tasty trail tacos (the resort’s take on street tacos), including Beef Barbacoa, Elk Chorizo, Pollo Asado and the vegetarian Tres Hermanas, as well as esquites (Mexican street corn on the cob) and Mexican-style beer. Plus there is a salsa bar with six options. Make sure to track the locations, dates and times of operations to find the Taco Beast, which also moves around during summer for hikers, bikers and anyone exploring the ski resort. The roving culinary snowcat is available for group bookings outside of normal operating hours.

If you are looking for the popular Umbrella Bar, it has moved from the base area to Rendezvous Lodge, providing additional indoor/outdoor bar service to guests in the

Sunshine Peak area of the mountain. Drinks and quick bites are served daily throughout the winter season.

There is a perfect remedy for relaxing and indulging after a busy day of meetings or enjoying the outdoors, soaking at Strawberry Park Hot Springs and dining at Ore House at the Pine Grove, a Steamboat Springs mainstay that occupies a 100-year-old barn converted into a restaurant in 1971. Think steaks, prime rib, seafood, a salad bar and delicious cinnamon rolls that are part of the bread basket! Plus there are three private dining options, including The Loft Banquet Room for groups of 41 to 120 upstairs

Strawberry Park Hot Springs is outside of town on a road that requires the right vehicle to traverse so consider booking one of two shuttle services. Or head to Old Town Hot Springs right in the town and spend some time in historic downtown.

That’s just the tip of the iceberg for a great meetings experience in Steamboat Springs!

The Minnesota State Fair is essentially a red carpet event for Minnesotans. That is, if red carpet events include food that is either fried, on a stick, or both. To celebrate the great love that Minnesotans have for their state, Radisson Blu Mall of America is offering state fair-themed meetings.
