Planners take note, West Texas is getting a new upscale event and lodging option in Midland: The Omni Midland Hotel broke ground on March 31, commemorated with a groundbreaking ceremony led by Dallas-based Omni Hotels & Resorts in partnership with Midland Downtown Renaissance LP (the latter being a collaboration among Midland companies, foundations, and investors to revitalize the city’s downtown).

Dallas architecture firm HKS Inc. will lead the architectural design, Looney & Associates (also of Dallas) will oversee interior design, and DesignAgency (based in Toronto, Ontario) will shape the look of the hotel’s restaurants and bars. All elements of Omni Midland Hotel will draw from and pay homage to the city’s oil industry heritage and West Texas culture, and the property is slated to open in late 2027.

“We are proud to see this project come to life,” says Kurt Alexander, president of Omni Hotels & Resorts, in a prepared statement. “Omni Midland Hotel honors the city’s storied history and reflects the natural beauty of the surrounding land. We are grateful to our partners for helping make this vision a reality, and we look forward to becoming a living room for Midland where visitors, guests, residents, and business leaders gather for meetings, celebrations, and community events for years to come.”

The hotel will feature 143 guest rooms and some 16,000 square feet of meeting and event space, including a 5,640-square-foot ballroom and an executive boardroom with a connected outdoor terrace. Culinary outlets will include a lobby bar, coffee shop, and Bob’s Steak & Chop House. A rooftop pool deck, full-service spa, and an 800-space parking garage will round out the amenities.

“As a lifelong Midlander, I am proud to see this project moving forward in downtown Midland,” says Midland Mayor Lori Blong. “… This project is another powerful example of Midlanders investing in Midland and building a brighter future for generations to come.”
