The City of Pearland Convention and Visitors Bureau has a new name, now known as Visit Pearland—a change the organization says more accurately represents the work it does to promote the destination. The switch reflects a nationwide trend of shifting convention and visitors bureaus to destination marketing organizations (DMOs). The change was announced mid-August.
Visit Pearland is not a completely new identity for the organization, however—it has operated under the brand since its inception in 2013, although it was never its official name until now. “It’s a natural transition after reaching our decade milestone,” says Tracy Rohrbacher, executive director of Visit Pearland, in a prepared statement. “Presenting under the one title moving forward will help clarify both our brand and our mission.”
The DMO’s primary goal is to boost the local economy of Pearland, a city on the southern end of the Greater Houston metropolitan area, through marketing and promotion, tourism development, leisure and sports events, and visitor services. The 2023 fiscal year was a record year for the city, during which it surpassed all previous records for generating annual hotel occupancy tax revenue.
Since its beginning, Visit Pearland has debuted numerous initiatives including the creation of the Pear-Scape Trail, a citywide scavenger hunt for 23 large-scale pear sculptures painted by local artists; the attraction of an increased number of sports tournament rights holders to choose the city as their host; the Pearland Mural Tour; and the Sip and Save Beverage Trail, a self-guided tour of Pearland taprooms, coffee shops, tea houses, and restaurants that offer discounts to participants. Visit Pearland is currently working on a Cultural Arts Master Plan, with the objective of invigorating the arts community in Pearland over the course of the next 10 years.
“Supporting the city of Pearland through its evolution this past decade has been very rewarding,” says Rohrbacher. “There have been changes through the years, but the core of our work remains the same; Pearland is an attractive destination city, and it’s our role to celebrate and promote it as such.”
