The Austin Convention Center Department (ACCD) has recently announced that Carla Steffen, CPA, CIA will take over as the assistant director of financial operations. Steffen will report directly to Mark Tester, director of ACCD. As the assistant director of financial operations, Steffen will oversee the finance, purchasing, contract compliance and IT unites of ACCD.
“We are very excited to have Carla join the ACCD team,” said Mark Tester. “Her extensive financial experience will be vital to the continued growth and success of our facilities.”
Steffen comes from the controller’s office of the City of Austin as the former deputy controller. Starting in 2002, she worked her way up from her starting title as the corporate internal audit manager. Prior to her time with the City of Austin, Steffen held positions with KMPG LLC, Elms, Faris & Company LLP and Sproles Woodard LLP. Steffen has gained 23 years of experience in financial accounting, analysis and auditing through her time with these companies. A graduate of the University of Texas of the Permian Basin, Stefen holds both bachelor and master’s degrees in business administration with emphases in accountancy and information systems and management.
The Austin Convention Center Department manages the LEED Gold certified Austin Convention Center (since 1992) and the Palmer Events Center (since 2002), in addition to three parking facilities. The two event centers have trafficked nearly 11 million people over a combined 4,000 events.
