Dallas Dominates Hotel Construction Pipeline

Construction of new and renovated hotels is booming this year in Texas. The United States Construction Pipeline Trend Report for the fourth quarter of 2022 by Lodging Econometrics revealed that Dallas has the largest hotel construction pipeline in the country with 176 projects in the works, accounting for 20,790 rooms.

The report also looked at U.S. projects in the planning stage, hotel builds scheduled to start in 2023, and hotels already under construction. At the close of the fourth quarter of last year, Dallas was the market with the largest project count in the early planning stage, with 85 projects and 9,644 rooms. The city also has the most projects scheduled to start this year with 68 projects and 7,711 rooms. Of the markets with hotels currently under construction, Dallas came in fourth behind New York, Phoenix, Arizona, and Atlanta, Georgia. The 23 ongoing projects in Dallas will deliver a total of 3,435 rooms.

Texas also made the list of the greatest number of new hotel openings in 2022, with Austin taking the second spot behind New York, thanks to 18 hotel openings in the Texas capital city, accounting for 2,233 rooms. For planners looking to Texas for upcoming events, there is sure to be plenty of room(s).
