According to a WalletHub study last year, one out of every four residents in Houston is foreign-born, making it the fourth-most diverse city in the country. In response to this population trend, fueled in part by refugees arriving in Texas, Marriott Marquis Houston has made strides to help people achieve and maintain employment. Recently, the hotel received Marriott’s prestigious Diversity Excellence Award in recognition of the hotel’s efforts to hire refugees and create opportunities for them to start over and thrive in Houston. Marriott Marquis Houston also has participated in Marriott’s Voyage Program, which helps new employees begin careers in hospitality. Teams at the hotel hold staff meetings in up to five different languages daily, and more than 70 young professionals have attained their first management-level positions in hospitality at Marriott Marquis Houston.
