Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders’ Workout Debuts at Omni Dallas Hotel

By M+E Staff

Like many of you, travel is a part (one the best parts) of my job. I love experiencing new places, meeting new people and putting a face with the name of a colleague who has become a virtual friend. And the food… I can’t speak for everyone, but who doesn’t eat well when travelling? With all of the meetings, networking and eating, it is all too easy to get out of an exercise routine while on the road. Fortunately, I can stay on track at the Omni Dallas Hotel. This convention hotel in the heart of Dallas has several ways for travelers to maintain their fitness routines. There is a heated rooftop infinity pool, a full-service 24-hour fitness center with views of downtown Dallas and, if I don’t feel like being presentable, I can ask for complimentary Get Fit Kits at the front desk for a quick and easy in-room workout.

This sounds pretty good, right? Well, wait ‘til you discover the Omni’s newest incentive to stay fit: a rigorous-yet-fun military bootcamp-style exercise class every Tuesday and Thursday at 6 p.m. with Jay Johnson, the official fitness trainer of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. For just $10 per person, Omni guests can just show up at the 4th floor fitness center for a Tuesday or Thursday — no sign up required.

The new program is the result of recent surveys conducted by Omni Hotels and Resorts, in which a majority of respondents reported that — in spite of attempts to maintain good habits — they experience weight gain while travelling. Additionally, surveyed guests indicated the need for expanded options such as yoga or spinning classes.

The next time I’m at the Omni, I know I’m going to give the new class a try. But even if I miss the Tuesday/Thursday offering, I suspect I’ll find inspiration in other ways. During my latest stay at the Omni, I put on some comfy shoes and set out to explore the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center via an indoor walkway that connects to the Omni Dallas Hotel.

The close proximity of the hotel and convention center provide meeting attendees easy access to more than 2.1 million square feet of event space — and plenty of room to meet daily fitness goals. Plus, the layout and floor-to-ceiling windows make it feel like you’re a part of downtown Dallas, even if your meeting or convention schedule doesn’t necessarily allow you to explore the city.
