Restaurant Recommendation: Cover 3 combines sports & upscale dining

By Katie Morford

Named after the three deep zones in football zone pass defense, Cover 3 focuses on keeping the “zones” of dining, spirits and sports covered for guests. Continuing on the triad motif, Cover 3 has three locations: North Austin, San Antonio and downtown Austin. While sports are a distinct theme, overall the venues try to create a welcoming environment for all.

“We think Cover 3 is in a league of its own,” says co-owner Matt Dodson. “By focusing on the entire entertainment experience from the food to the drinks to the atmosphere, we are able to create an environment that is accessible and enjoyable to everyone, from the avid sports fanatic to the casual sports lover.”

The chef-driven menu features a variety of selections ranging from the Allandale Salad made with baby spinach, mixed greens, chicken, Applewood smoked bacon, dates, avocado, chopped egg, red onion, blue cheese, candied walnuts and honey balsamic vinaigrette to the Chop House burger. Intending to provide a cozy, accessible atmosphere, the restaurants feature leather booths and granite-topped tables.

For groups, the North Austin location’s private dining room can accommodate up to 40, while the Sky Box upstairs holds 20 to 80 in a space furnished with cocktail tables and red leather sofas. The Party Room at the downtown Austin location can accommodate 32 guests and has two 80-inch TVs. In San Antonio, the Suite offers a luxurious space for up to 20, while the outdoor Main Patio can hosts events for 60 to 80.
