How EV-Friendly Is Your Event?

Ensure attendees can get around with ease by carefully evaluating the EV charging situation at or near your gathering site

Phase one of the Texas Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Plan implemented by the Texas Department of Transportation is underway, increasing the number of electric vehicle (EV) chargers along roadways. Charging stations are already installed at convention centers and city facilities, like the Irving Convention Center at Las Colinas. Mercedes-Benz HPC North America LLC installed EV charging hubs at several Buc-ee’s travel centers and will continue to install more until the stations are at all locations.

According to J.D. Power’s 2023 North America Third-Party Hotel Management Guest Satisfaction Benchmark study, 19% of hotel guests surveyed said they need to have an EV charging station at their hotel. Here’s how to make sure your attendees can power up.
There are two types of charging offered at stations: Level 2 and Level 3 DC fast charging. The latter is usually complete within an hour, while the former takes several hours or overnight. Additionally, there are different types of charging plugs for various car brands. Check with each venue to see how many EVs its stations can accommodate and whether all car brands can charge on-site.

Evaluate how many stations will be available for attendees when they venture out between sessions or for evening activities. When reading a map of charging stations, like the one offered by PlugShare, keep in mind that stations located at car dealerships or apartment complexes might not be accessible to the public or available after-hours.

If you really want to tap into the future of electric tech, try renting mobile charging stations that can provide power for other uses. The VOLTstack Mobile EV Charger not only powers EVs, but it can also power live stage setups or provide emergency backup power.
