In the meetings industry, food waste is a big concern for environmentally conscious companies, attendees, and planners. Fortunately, with advancements in waste recycling, hotels and venues are finding innovative ways to address this problem.

Hilton Dallas Lincoln Centre has partnered with Denali Water Solutions, a waste and environmental services company, to pioneer zero-food-waste events. Leveraging Denali’s expertise and depackaging technology, the hotel now can separate packaging materials to ensure only clean food waste is repurposed. This clean stream of organic material is then turned into compost.

Additionally, Austin is offering incentives for adopting zero-waste practices. Austin Resource Recovery provides a rebate of up to $750 for meetings that meet a list of zero-waste benchmarks. Through civic and corporate partnerships, programs like these help Texas increase sustainable practices in the meetings industry.
